Truly, Truly

Speaking is not writing—When we speak we can’t use bold print, italics or underline phrases for emphasis—we need to emphasize using various repetitions, voice changes, or statements— Jesus verbal teachings in the Gospel book of John typically begin with emphasis—he would say “truly, truly” -- not one truly but two- Truly truly! ἀμήν ʾāmēn (543). Amen, to be firm, steady, trustworthy. Rendered also as “truth” (Is. 65:16, “God of amen”;[1] This is a way Jesus underlined his statements—this is “absolutely true”- “I tell you the utmost ‘truth’— over the course of the summer, and multiple speakers, we will be looking at the Truly Truly statements of Jesus in this book, to pay attention to what He didn’t want us to miss—the utmost truth!
