Death Comes to ALL Men

Wedding vows are beautiful. To hear a man and a woman give themselves to one another is a precious gift. God designed and appointed marriage even before sin entered the world. As we reflect upon wedding vows, we understand this covenant lasts a lifetime. But, there is one reality that causes this covenant to end; ‘til death do us part.’
“And just as it is appointed for man to die once, and after that comes judgment” (Hebrews 9). As Christians this truth resonates. We understand death is coming for everyone. Although it is part of the curse, it is necessary that mankind does not live forever in sin. Eternity ought to bring an excitement for the Church of Christ. “To live is Christ, but to die is gain” (Philippians 1). The work of Christ on the cross enables us to have confidence even in death.
Many comedic movies and TV shows often ignore or even find humour amidst this reality. It is an attempt to make light of something that many fear. For those with no hope, death is the ultimate separator. If we are simply here by random chance, if there is no life after death; death ought to be feared.
For Christians, death takes us to our true home. Death does not separate, but rather fully unites us with our Saviour. Romans 8:38 reminds us that nothing, not even death itself will ever separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord. Cling to this promise; this surety that God has enabled salvation through His Son. We affirm and are comforted by what Paul reminded the Corinthians of; “O death, where is your victory? O death, where is your sting?” (1 Corinthians 15:55).
