Fishers of Men
Welcome to the Fishers of men portion of the People Church web site. The Fishers of Men (Evangelism) Ministry started a couple of weeks before Christmas 2004 with only a few men from Peoples church and now we’ve had more than 35 men and women (of like faith) from several of the Sarnia area churches join us in our efforts to share the Good News of Christ with the people in our community.
Our goal is to faithfully sow the seed of the gospel to the people in our community, to go beyond the comfort of the church building by stepping into the local hot spots (malls, casino, local community events...etc) to seek and save the lost... the way Jesus did. We have been using the biblical principals taught through "The Way of the Master" foundation course and the School of Biblical Evangelism.
Biblical evangelism always follows the principle of "Law to the proud and grace to the humble". Scripture tells us that "God resists the proud, but gives grace to the humble" (James 4:6). The law, when used lawfully, acts as a schoolmaster to bring the sinner to Christ (Galatians 3:24). When the law is used as a mirror, it reveals that sin is "exceedingly sinful" (Romans 7:13) and humbles the sinner and shows him his desperate need for a Saviour. The Law truly is perfect for converting the soul. (Psalm 19:7)
The Fishers of men had an amazing year in 2006. We not only had the pleasure to faithfully sow the seeds of the gospel into the hearts and lives of many but we also had the privilege to reap as well. John 4:36-38 "And he who reaps receives wages, and gathers fruit for eternal life, that both he who sows and he who reaps may rejoice together. For in this the saying is true: 'One sows and another reaps.’ I sent you to reap that for which you have not laboured; others have laboured, and you have entered into their labours."
Some of the Highlights from 2006 include:
- Easter 2006- Doing an "Intelligence Test" in the Lambton mall.
- Canada Day & BAYFEST 2006
- December 2006- Doing a “Christmas Quiz” Challenge in the mall.
- Bi-weekly fishing trips to some of the local hotspots
The Fishers of men have many exciting plans for 2007. We are planning to continue going out on a bi-weekly basis to share Christ with the lost at the malls and throughout Sarnia, Wyoming, Petrolia, Port Huron and wherever the Lord leads. Plus we are looking to team up with New Life and Bethel for an Evangelism Seminar and Outreach Event in July 2007.
The fields are ready for the Harvest! We are continuing to pray to the Lord of the harvest that He will send forth more labourers into His harvest. (Mathew 9:37-38)
Jesus said; "Follow me and I will make you fishers of men" (Matthew 4:19)
